"We have been learning about
Native American drums for several years, so when we have the
honor to participate in a workshop about drums and drumming, we
always make the effort to travel and enlarge our circle. Thank
you, Judy for bringing us to the wonderful rural state of Maine
and feeling your Mother Earth guidance while learning your art
of drum making. You truly honor the elements of nature and
helped us create life through the heart beats of our new drums." |
In her teaching, Judy works intuitively, guiding participants through the creative process. She grounds her teaching in earth-based spirituality, honoring the abundance of Mother Earth and the spirit of the animals and plants used in creating the craft. Judy teaches individualized and small group workshops. She finds that one-on-one instruction allows her to work with each person's skill level and creativity. Small groups are also welcome to take a workshop together, with each participant getting personal attention. The Earthcraft Studio is located in a tranquil setting near Portland, Maine. Judy uses the natural beauty of the land, trees, brook, and wildlife to enhance the creative experience. She may blend meditation, time in nature, ritual and ceremony into her teaching, depending on individual interests. She works with each individual or group to set aside a mutually determined time and date for a workshop. A drum workshop is one full day or two half-days. The workshop includes all materials, Earth rituals and instruction on how to create your own drum. Judy will help you cut the hide, lace it, create the handle from the lacing, and make the beater. You take the drum home wet at the end of the workshop. For more information or to schedule a workshop, please contact us. | ||

About Judy
Judy has studied earth crafts at the Wilderness School in Brunswick, Maine. She made her first drum in 1992. From there she was guided to create drums for others. Later on she was asked to teach drum making workshops so individuals could make their own personal drum and put their creative energy into it. This is a very powerful experience for each student. Judy loves being out in nature, enjoying walks with her dogs, kayaking on the river and sitting outdoors by the backyard pond she created. She lives in Scarborough, Maine with her life partner and her dogs.
